Story
「崖の上に建つ城。どうしてそんなところに建てたのかしら」
ふと、サランは崖の上にある城が気になった。
「それはきっとあれさ、目立ちたいんだ」
物知りのクルが言った。クルは色々知っている。人から話を聞くんだって、クル自身も話すのが好きだから皆に物語を聞かせてる。
物語は、誰かが作ったお話。作られた、おとぎ話ってやつ。
けど、本当のことを書かれている本もある。要するにさ、本当なのか、嘘なのか、目にするまではわからないってこと。
「目立つため？」
「そう、ここに城を建てたんだぞ！立派だろ、下にいる人から羨ましがられるかもしれないし。偉い人って高いところが好きみたいだよ」
「は～、でもさ、ちょっと足を滑らせたら、あっという間に終わりよ。まるで天から地へ真っ逆さまね。」
「はは、そんなのは気にしないさ。もしかしたら崖から落ちそうになったら、空を飛べるかもしれないしさ」
「飛べるわけないでしょう、何言ってるのかしらこの子。鳥じゃあるまいし」
「おや、君は鳥人間って知ってるかい？
こないだ僕見たんだ」
自慢げにクルが言った。自慢げにいうところはちょっと苦手。嘘か本当かわからないことも、自慢げに言うんだもの。
話半分で聞いといたほうが、いいのかもしれないけどさ。私はハッキリしたいタイプだから、事実だけを言ってほしいんだ。
結局おとぎ話って、夢の世界と変わらないんだから。
サランはまた始まったか～なんて顔をしながら、髪の毛を触っていた。
「いいえ、全く知らないわ、そんなのがいたら大騒ぎじゃない。」
「とても動きが速いからね、一瞬だったよ。だから、きっと誰にも見つからないんだ」
あきれた。
「だったらなんで、クルは見たわけ？
「夜中に外から歌が聞こえてきてね、ちょっと窓を覗いてみたんだよ。そしたら、鳥人間が歌ってた。じっと見てたら向こうも気づいてどっか行っちゃったけどね。
まぁいいや、そういうのもいるんだってこと、知っちゃったからね。
みんなには内緒だよ。連れて来いって言われたら面倒だからね」
それは、うん。夢だな。
「おーい」とトマスが向こうから言った。
手を振るとトマスが走ってくる。
ハァハァハァ、どうやら急いでいるみたいだ。
「ハ～～～。あの崖の城の中から、歌が聞こえるんだってさ！お父さんが山菜取ってるときに森へ行ったら聞いたんだって」
冒険が始まりそうだ。

"A castle on a cliff. I wonder why it was built there."
Suddenly, Saran became curious about the castle on the cliff.
"I'm sure it's because it wants to stand out,"
Kuru, the knowledgeable one, said. Kuru knows a lot. He hears stories from people, and he himself loves to talk, so he tells stories to everyone.
Stories are stories that someone made up. Made-up fairy tales.
But there are also books that contain true stories. In other words, you can't tell if something is true or a lie until you see it.
"To stand out?"
"Yes, I built a castle here! It's impressive, isn't it? Maybe people down below will be jealous. It seems like important people like high places."
"Haha, but if I even slightly slip, it'll be over in an instant. It'll be like falling from heaven to earth."
"Haha, I don't mind that. Maybe if I were to fall off a cliff, I could fly."
"Of course I can't fly. What are you talking about, kid? I'm not a bird."
"Hey, do you know what a birdman is? I saw one the other day."
Kuru said proudly. I don't really like people who brag. They brag about things they don't know if they're true or false.
Maybe it's best to take what they say with a grain of salt. I like to get things straight, so I want them to just tell me the facts.
After all, fairy tales are just like dream worlds.
Saran stroked her hair, thinking, "Here we go again," she said. "No, I've never heard of it. If something like that existed, it wouldn't be a big deal."
"It moves so fast, it only took a moment. No one would have found it."
I was shocked.
"Then why did you see it, Kuru?"
"I heard a song outside in the middle of the night, so I peeked out the window. I saw a birdman singing. I stared at it for a while, and it noticed me and went off somewhere.
Well, whatever. Now I know that kind of thing exists.
I'm not telling anyone. It would be a pain if they asked me to bring it back."
That's right. Yes. It was a dream.
"Hey," Thomas called from the other side.
I waved, and Thomas came running over.
He was panting, he seemed to be in a hurry.
"Haaaah. Apparently you can hear the song coming from inside that castle on the cliff! Dad heard it when he went into the forest to pick wild vegetables."
The adventure is about to begin.
